Found Footage

There are two distinctive film makers who make Found Footage in Japanese Experimental film makers now.
sueoka

Ichiro Sueoka

Ichiro Sueoka is known also as a researcher who collect and investigate many kind of "The Home Movies" taken by super8 or 16mm. It is his expression that a memory of original film is reconstructed with putting new material by hand processing.His works emphasize that "Film" is the media which keep the memory as physical material.
And also it would be considered from the cultural anthropology about the relation between "Media of moving image" and Human being. Because, so we can see how the actual time of the original film was shot.

Ryusuke Ito

Ryusuke Ito makes film from the physical material collage of many kind of format (super8, 16mm, 35mm . . . etc).
It is presented in his work that "Montage" on the Movie is not only the time control but also the physical reconstruction.
He expresses the system of "Moving Image Media" visually and considers about it.

Although this film is not Found Footage, it represents the characteristic, the system and the meaning of existence of "Film" visually.
In this work, the operation manual of 8mm film for beginner is used as the motif. The manual has presented unauthorized use of the error cause. But the error as well is the action for making image by hand processing experimental. In fact, the unauthorized use set by the film product company has been important process for me. For example, controlling of temperature, mixing different chemical . . . etc.
This work is represented by reconstruction of film material and include irony such as it.

She says about this work.
My parents' house have moved from my hometown. I put away the time that I spent in hometown Toyokoro-cho, my past work, the memory of my family.

This work represents about progress of the time on the movie. He constructs an image such as looping horizontally panorama of 360-degree and includes control of different time into the image.
If the movie started, it certainly finishes. But he combines endless time and space in this work.

This work is reconstruction of memory by animation. He remembers a happening that unconsciously has slept when he was eating as a child. It is the theme that changing from a desire to a desire smoothly.

She is also known as film maker of Photo Animation. It is her characteristic that focuses the point of photograph becomes existence that keep image when an image rise to the surface of paper. It is her characteristic that focusing on photograph become existence which can keep image when an image rise to the surface of paper.
In this work, a landscape of playground equipment is taken apart to 30,000 pieces of card, and remade as animation. It expresses a matter such as twist of time in a space.

This work is a consideration about the vision expression by "Dot".
Although a "Dot" is a basic elements for constituting an graphical image, it does not necessarily exist as an object which is touched by the hand in actual space.
However,everybody can understand that the "Dot" actually exist. It is extremely conceptual.
I represented the Dot as a basic element as main matter in this movie by fixing various kinds of dots on a cinema film and montaging.It seems that Dot is thinking about existence of itself.
